Animal Project and Research Links

Families,

We are beginning a very involved project that encompasses both Science and Language Arts. In upcoming weeks your child will be researching an animal of their choice.  They will learn about  physical characteristics, habitats, predators, and food sources.

Each student is working to complete a factual book in class. Additionally, each student is expected to complete at least one of the options on the Animal Project Choice Board that we’ve attached.  Please discuss with your Firstie which options he or she is planning to work on.

Projects from the Choice Board are to be completed at home, therefore we wanted you to have plenty of warning.

All projects, including the in-class portion, are due on Friday, May 13.  The concept of a due date is brand new to Firsties.  Please help us by asking your child about his or her progress often between now and then.

Thank you!

Mrs. Confer

Have someone interview you about your animal as if you’re an expert on the news.

Record it to share with the class.

Make a model of your animal using clay, legos, papier mache, or other materials.

Make a poster of your animal in its habitat.  Label it with any important information

Write poems about your animal. Choose two or more:

  • Cinquain

  • Limerick

  • Diamonte

  • Acrostic

  • Haiku

Build a diorama of your animal in its habitat.  Use whatever materials you’d like in order to show lots of details.

Make a comic strip featuring your animal.

Use Wixie or Google Slides to create a digital poster or book about your animal.

Write a letter to a zoo keeper in order to persuade him or her that they should or should not have your animal at their zoo.

Write a song about your animal. Be sure it includes plenty of facts.
